19 high-class entries have been made for the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes, worth £70,000, which takes place at Royal Windsor Racecourse this Saturday over 1m2f.
The likes of Group 3 scorer Military Order and improving hat-trick seeker Fox Legacy are two entrants who catch the eye at the five-day stage.
Aidan O’Brien has never won this contest before, but has entered the unexposed Aftermath who is still to run in 2025. He finished third behind Bay City Roller in the Champagne Stakes (G2) last year.
The all conquering Wathnan Racing are triply represented at the five-day stage courtesy of Diego Ventura, King’s Gambit and Silawi. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum could be doubly represented with King Of Cities and Cambridgeshire winner Liberty Lane.
The Owen Burrows-trained Gethin is unbeaten in two starts which he has won with consummate ease. This would represent a big step-up in grade, but he is a fascinating contender if declared.
The preceding Weatherbys Digital Solutions August Stakes (Listed) is worth £55,000 and will be run over 1m3f. There are a lot of horses with entries in this contest as well as the feature Winter Hill Stakes.
However, the popular 9-year-old Hamish only holds an entry in this contest this week suggesting he is highly likely to take up this engagement. He is chasing a third consecutive win after defeating Military Academy in the BetGoodwin Tapster Stakes (Listed) at Goodwood.
Charlie Rees, Clerk of the Course at Royal Windsor Racecourse, said: “We are encouraged by the strength and depth of entries for both the Winter Hill and August Stakes, kindly sponsored by Weatherbys. Temperatures look to be remaining in the low 20s throughout the week with little chance of rain; so we will endeavour to produce Good to Firm/Good ground for racing on Saturday.”
